TIPS AND ADVICE

Tips for really stunning wedding videos

Not surprisingly over the years we have learnt a thing or two about what makes a really good wedding video. So, we have put together a few tips and pointers so that you can get the best out of your video.

Plan the day

Because we are filming a live event it isn't possible to plan the day to a huge degree. After all, we are there to film what happens as it happens. During the day we do not set things up or pose people unless we are filming a special sequence. However, it is important that some planning is done before the day so we know what is happening and any preferences you have for style and content.

Some weeks before the wedding we need to know who the main people are, exactly what is planned for the day and your timings. You also need to give some thought about any preferences you have for filming and editing styles and any particular music tracks you would like to be included on your wedding video.

It is also helpful if we know in advance whether any of your guests are extra special, such as grand-parents or other relatives. Then we can ensure that we get plenty of footage of them. Even though we will be filming throughout the day, let us know if there are any parts of the day that are particularly important so that again we can ensure that they are captured.

In short, the more we know, in advance, about the planned details of your day and any preferences you may have, the easier it is for us on the day and during the edit.

Tell the whole story

To make really good wedding videos we need to show as much of the day as possible. The greater the variety of footage we have, the easier it is to tell the story. Ideally, we should have footage of the morning preparations and the rest of the day through to the evening celebrations.

It always surprises me when we are only booked until the first dance and the photographer is booked late into the evening. After all, do you just want a few pictures of people dancing? Wouldn't you prefer to SEE them dancing and HEAR the music?

Change of scene

Whilst it isn't always possible, try to get some outside footage taken during the day. This provides a change of scenery to break up the video. Outside footage is generally brighter with better colours than footage shot indoors.

On the same subject, try to make time for a short video shoot, in the same way that time is made for the photo shoot. Footage of the couple walking slowly together, holding hands and chatting can really lift the footage and makes for a great wedding video. It gives you a bit of time away from the guests and gives us a chance to set up some shots that just wouldn't otherwise be possible. 15 minutes or so can often result in some of the best footage on the DVD.

Guest messages

Weddings are unique inasmuch that you have all your friends, family and relatives all together in one place at the same time. During the day we will ensure that we get plenty of footage of everybody, however it makes a nice personal touch if your guests leave messages for you.

We can set up a camera in a quiet area after the meal so that your guests can come and leave their messages. It is great fun for them and something nice for you when you watch your wedding day video.
