WEDDING VIDEO EDITING STYLES
Your wedding DVD
The way that your wedding is filmed is extremely important. No amount of editing will correct shaky footage or poorly composed shots. However, all things being equal it is editing that brings wedding videos to life and stamps the videographer's style on the film.
Our aim during editing is to tell the story of your day in a fresh, modern and captivating style that you, your friends and family will want to watch over and over again.
We will keep the technical details to a minimum here and just concentrate on the basic differences in styles. Our promo pack and sample DVD have more details and examples.
Modern reportage style
This style is best thought of as a highly polished fly-on-the wall story of your day - as it happened.
During the day we work quietly in the background filming your day as it unfolds.
We then edit the various segments as they occurred to preserve continuity. We rely on good camera-work and traditional editing techniques to create a compelling and elegant film of your wedding day. We don't use a huge range of effects, relying instead on standard editing techniques.
Black and White
Among the effects we do use in your wedding video are black & white or sepia. This classical colour change effect creates a timeless, historical feel as well as producing high-contrast images.
Slow Motion
We also use slow-motion, where appropriate, to highlight emotional or fun parts of the day - for examples the confetti shower. If used correctly, slow-motion creates an artistic feel to the video and highlights those 'special moments'.
Your Choice of Music
Your film is set to a background soundtrack, using music of your choice, to create and enhance atmosphere and pace. Your wedding video comes with opening titles and optional guest messages.
Contemporary cinematic films
This advanced style of editing takes your wedding film to a whole new level. Extra time is invested in a film that’s both highly creative and entertaining to watch. The intention is to create a dramatic effect and contemporary mood with a 'wow' factor rather than a chronological record of the day.
High Grade Filters and Effects
Cinematic editing and effects should not be confused with the tacky 'special effects' such as chequered wipes, page curls and heart transitions often used on amateur and poorly-produced videos. These are just tacky and cheesy and have no place in a professionally produced wedding film.
Instead, we use a variety of advanced, subtle filming and editing techniques seen all the time on TV and in the cinema. These include, amongst others; time shifting, speed changes, lens flares as well as visual and audio overlays.
Advanced Colour Processing
We also use advanced colour processing, which adjusts colour balance, contrast and saturation, creating a special filmic look to your wedding film. This is a process that is used in all Hollywood films.
These techniques are combined with the creative use of audio overlays and creative editing with selected music to bring out the emotion and highlights of the day.
Interviews
Your wedding video can also be enhanced with interviews with yourselves, family members and selected guests to give your wedding video a contemporary, documentary feel.
